Standards for Member Schools

The Caribbean Association of Independent Schools (CAIS) is an organization of member schools that advocates on behalf of independent education in the Caribbean region and participates actively in the educational dialogue of our community. It provides services that strengthen our individual schools, and it supports their efforts to achieve educational quality and excellence for its students.

Association Commitments

ai??? Ethical ai??i?? The Association exists to promote high ethical practices among independent schools in the Caribbean.
ai??? Financial ai??i?? The Association expects a member schoolai??i??s fiduciary commitment to solvency.
ai??? Governance ai??i?? The Association supports the development of and adherence to best practices in governance which designates the school Head as the leader of the school.
ai??? Teaching ai??i?? The Association advocates that faculty members display a high order of professionalism, dedication to the teaching profession and a commitment to the growth and development of each child.
ai??? Philosophical ai??i?? The Association requires that each school clearly state its mission and develop programs and educational practices that support fulfillment.

Standards of Membership

ii??i??ii??i??ii??i??ii??i??In order to qualify for full membership in the Association, and all its benefits, a school must meet the following standards:

ai??? Private independent schools must be fully accredited in order to receive membership in the Association.
ai??? All member schools must be non-profit or, if for profit, must have a governance structure consistent with independent school best practices in governance. The governing body must have established procedures for developing school policies and delineating its responsibilities.
ai??? Each member school must adhere to the highest standards of public integrity, honoring all promises made to its various constituencies and to the general public, and avoiding misleading statements about its programs, situations, or status.
ai??? Each school must have a clear statement of its objectives and purposes. All individuals and groups ai??i?? governing body, professional staff, students and parents ai??i?? associated with the school should have an understanding of these goals.
ai??? Employment and admission practices must be non-discriminatory.
ai??? Each school must make available to the families of newly enrolled students information
concerning their financial responsibility to the school.
